The German Hard Rock band THE NEW ROSES has released their sixth album. The new “Attracted To Danger” contains timeless melodies and choruses you can easily sing along to.

Singer Timmy Rough and drummer Urban Berz founded the band in 2007, but it was not until 2012 that the group was complete and named THE NEW ROSES. The following year, their debut album “Without A Trace” was released. The fourth album “Nothing But Wild” (2019) entered the top 10 in their home country. The latest, fifth album “Sweet Poison” (2022) also reached high on the German charts. The group has also become listener favorites on international Rock radio stations, but the best way to experience their rock’n’roll energy is during their concerts. THE NEW ROSES was the first German band to perform at the KISS Kruise in 2018 and 2019. The guys have also been the support act to, for example, ZZ TOP, SAXON and Y&T, as well as sharing the stage with AEROSMITH, FOREIGNER and SCORPIONS. Last year they welcomed guitarist Norman Bites back and the troupe went from four to five members.

THE NEW ROSES is an underrated band, at least outside of Germany. They write good music and live they are even better. However, it must be admitted here that although it is good, it does not really stick with me and I do not know why. Am I always unfocused when listening to their music? Probably not. I need to have something more for it to appeal to me properly. It is a little too bland. Of course, it does not have to be that complicated or touching to be good, so I let the music and the positive vibes of the new material wash over me. In that way it is wonderfully uplifting.

The group plays easy-going, positive Hard Rock in American style. “When You Fall In Love” is a good example of that. Here there is a warmth in the music, which lifts the frame of mind and can put anyone in a happy mood. Just like in “Spirit Of A Rebel”, there is generally a swinging sound and it is easy to sing along to the choruses.

Timmy Rough has a lovely raspiness in his voice. Everyone in the whole band are very skilled musicians, so we are treated to, among other things, dexterous guitar playing and, above all, a fantastic playing by the bassist Hardy. The bass tones meander around the record’s melodies in an intensifying and pleasant way, as in, for example, the awesome “Bring The Thunder”.

“Four Wheels” contains a lovely heavy swinging. The song is performed with a cool, cocky, laid-back attitude and a twinkle in the eye. There is also a small dose of seriousness on the album. To some extent in the group’s own lyrics, but above all in the cover of NEIL YOUNG’s classic “Rockin’ In The Free World”. THE NEW ROSES make it their own, incredibly good version. The track almost feels shorter than the original, even though the guys’ Hard Rock version is over a minute longer, which proves that it became interesting and appealing.

The new album “Attracted To Danger” surprised me by being much better than I expected. The material is filled with Arena Rock, gives a concert feeling and is suitable as music for parties to raise the mood, something THE NEW ROSES are known to do. (Anna)
